1965 Freedom Ride

Let’s yarn about a piece of history that changed the game for Aboriginal rights. On February 12th 1965, a group of Uni of Sydney students hit the road for the Freedom Ride, led by Charles Perkins, an Arrernte man and fierce advocate.

Their mission?

  • Shine a light on the harsh realities of Aboriginal health, education, and housing.
  • Call out discrimination and push for real change.
  • Inspire Aboriginal people to stand tall and resist injustice.

This powerful journey sparked conversations and activism that we still feel today. Every February 12th, we honour their courage and the work we’ve still got to do for our communities. Let’s keep the spirit of the Freedom Ride alive.
