On this day in 1967, Australians voted to amend the Constitution to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the national census and to give the federal government the power to make laws for their benefit.

This was an essential step towards recognising the rights and contributions of Indigenous Australians. Let us continue to work towards a more just and equitable future for all.
